SUMMARY:Course: Safety in Design (SiD)
DESCRIPTION:Based on the EEA’s Safety in Design Guide (2016) the purpose of the Safety in Design (SiD) course is to give participants an understanding of the contribution of a variety of perspectives to SiD\, and practice using a selection of risk-based tools and techniques in real-world scenarios. \nCourse structure\nWe have embraced the concept of Kāhui Ako (communities of learning) in the delivery of the SiD courses. ElectroNet and other experts tutor the course\, and we work with you beforehand to ensure that your needs are catered to\, and that the case studies are relevant. \nWorkshops include: \n\nCase studies provided by other organisations who have completed the courses\, and have donated their material and lessons learned\nCase studies provided by you\n\nSafety in Design SiD course – 2025 \nNeed to upskill or train a team? Inhouse training is available for all EEA courses.  Contact us to discuss your needs at admin@eea.co.nz. \nAbout the SiD course\nThe SiD course involves a comprehensive online component (taking approximately 6hrs)\, followed by either a full-day onsite workshop\, or four\, 2hr group webinars over a four-week period. You can choose which type of workshop is best for you and your organisation. \nOnce complete\, we offer an organisational SiD Maturity Assessment. The purpose of the assessment is to objectively assess an organisation’s SiD maturity\, with the results presented in the form of a SiD improvement plan. \nCourse commences\nMonday 3rd August 2026 \nRegistration\nFollow the link below to register for this course.

SUMMARY:EEA Innovation Webinar Series 2026
DESCRIPTION:The EEA seeks out the people closest to the sector’s biggest challenges and brings their work straight to our members\, free of charge.  This year’s series spans three sessions: \n\nPowerco’s work on AI-driven forecasting and grid-edge connections\nHorizon Networks’ trial of an AI-based climate resilience platform\nNew international research on consumer trust and equity from the University of Notre Dame\n\nIt is a chance to hear directly from the engineers\, researchers\, and innovators shaping where our industry is headed\, well before the ideas reach the wider market. \nThese sessions will focus on how Aotearoa New Zealand’s electricity sector is adapting to a faster-changing\, more decentralised future. Each session brings practical insight from people working at the front line of the industry’s biggest challenges\, from AI-driven forecasting and climate resilience to the consumer side of the energy transition. \nEach session runs 11am-12pm on the dates shown below.  There is no charge to attend for EEA members\, but registration is required. \n\nOctober session \nNote:  No September session due to EEA2026 \nWho Powers the Future? Consumer behaviour\, pricing\, and trust in Aotearoa New Zealand’s electricity transition \nWhen: Tuesday 13 October 2026\, 11am-12pm \nPresented by: Baxter Kamana-Williams from the University of Notre Dame \nDescription: Decisions on pricing\, distributed generation and demand-side management will shape who benefits\, and who doesn’t\, as New Zealand’s electricity system decentralises. This session looks at the often-overlooked consumer side of that equation. \nBaxter Kamana-Williams presents new research across five key areas: behavioural dynamics\, electricity pricing\, distributed generation and storage\, energy efficiency\, and consumer trust. He’ll explore why demand-side management is more complex than it looks\, how pricing and DG policy can advance or undermine equity\, and why consumer trust is critical to whether energy policy succeeds. \nWho should attend: Energy policy professionals\, regulators\, distribution network operators\, demand-side management practitioners\, and anyone interested in energy equity and the residential consumer experience. \nUse this link to register for 13 October 2026

SUMMARY:Course: Mathematics for Overhead Line Designers
DESCRIPTION:The Mathematics for Overhead Line Designers course was developed in response to feedback from those who participated in the Micro-credential in Overhead Line Design who felt their mathematics knowledge needed refreshing before beginning the technical modules. \nThe course is not a compulsory part of the micro-credential but is recommended. \nAbout\nThe course is suitable for technical engineers and electrical tradespeople who work as a line designer and are aware of gaps in their knowledge of the mathematics involved. Participants will already have a basic understanding of electrical theory and NCEA Level 1 (or equivalent) mathematics skills. \nTheoretical knowledge and skills are shared through two stand-alone modules delivered in webinar workshops. Practice is undertaken as homework between workshops\, and ‘cheat-sheets’ are provided as takeaways to help you in your job. \nNeed to upskill or train a team? Inhouse training is available for all EEA courses.  Contact us to discuss your needs at admin@eea.co.nz. \nProgramme structure\nThe modules include: \n\nModule 1 – Algebraic equations (delivered in three 1.5hr workshops)\nModule 2 – Trigonometry (delivered in two 1.5hr workshops)\n\nUpon completion of these modules\, you will be able to: \n\nPerform basic mathematic calculations\nInterpret and use engineering formulae\nCheck engineering design calculations\n\nMathematics for OH Line Design course Flyer – 2025 \nCourse commences\nFriday 16th October 2026 (To be confirmed)
