The Network Innovation and Performance team is a key group within the core business operation here at WEL. As a team, we assist the transition to the smart flexible distribution network of the future; enabling WEL to realise its ambition of becoming a Distribution System Operator (DSO).

About the role

We are looking for an experienced electrical engineer with a strong background in electricity distribution network development and operation, to join our growing team. This role will be reporting to the Head of Network Innovation and Performance, and the successful candidate will design solutions using the latest real time metering technology, data analytic insights, and the DER flexibility management platforms to lead the transition to a future business operating model to support the integration of new technology into the distribution network development. You will lead the new solution strategy implementation, create new business processes and work with the wider team on work plan prioritisation before delving into the individual solution options which encompass conducting comprehensive assessments, securing internal business funds, coordinating resources and handing the project over to the delivery team.

Skills and experience:

  • Recognised Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent degree
  • A minimum of five years relevant industry experience
  • Experience in engineering design, solutions/ applications implementation, configuration and commissioning
  • Experience with Distributed Energy Resources (DER), new technology, network operations and/or SCADA systems would be an advantage
