The Electricity Engineers’ Association (EEA) aims to be a leader for Aotearoa New Zealand’s energy industry, providing expert electricity system engineering, technical, and safety advice that is pan industry, innovative, inclusive, and trusted.
Our objectives are:
- To represent members’ views to regulatory bodies, Government, news media and other stakeholders on engineering and associated issues relating to the electricity industry.
- To provide a forum for members to debate issues relating to, and advance their knowledge in, the science, technology and management of the assets and resources employed in the production, transmission, distribution, and utilisation of electrical energy.
- To promote the development and adoption of appropriate electricity industry standards.
- To enhance the professional development of members and promote their value to the community, and to support the education of people who work, or will work within the electricity supply industry.
- To promote and develop knowledge and awareness of health and safety in the electricity industry, and among those people that interact with the industry.
EEA offers three levels of Corporate Membership, and Individual (Full) and Associate Membership depending on an individual’s position, experience and qualifications. We also offer membership for graduates and students.
Joining the EEA gives members:
The opportunity to be engaged and to be part of a collective industry voice
The EEA represents members on engineering, health and safety, asset management, standards and professional development issues to Government, regulators and professional bodies. Members can participate in setting technical and safety benchmarks by commenting draft EEA submissions, while the EEA promotes its members’ views in a strong and single voice.
Up-to-date technical and safety guidelines and best practice documents
The EEA develops and maintains collective risk management rules and guidance in order to help members maintain appropriate technical and safety standards. The EEA is focused on excellence in industry performance and continually reviews, updates and educates industry on engineering and safety processes.
Access to a pool of information on key industry news and issues
The EEA is committed to keeping members informed about key industry issues, including legislation changes, safety and asset management reports, statistics and trends, industry events, and many other topics. Members are kept up-to-date through regular mail bulletins, newsletters and via the Knowledge Network.
An independent forum to exchange and debate the needs of the industry
The EEA organises regular events offering a platform for networking, professional development, information sharing and opinion gathering. The EEA Annual Conference is the main engineering event for the New Zealand power industry, but many other national and regional events give members the opportunity to raise their voice and exchange their views.
Professional development support all along our members’ careers
The EEA delivers professional development training to industry engineers using New Zealand and overseas consultancies and universities specialising in the power industry. These training events include engineering courses and Incident Cause Analysis Method (ICAM) courses on collaboration with Safety Wise Solutions (SWS).
