EEA and its member companies are committed to ensuring that members of the public are not put at risk of harm from electricity industry assets.
Together with Electricity Networks Association (ENA), we set up the Electricity Supply Industry Public Safety Working Group (PSWG) in 2014.
The group has the following objectives:
- To analyse available data on incident trends;
- To share details and learning from incidents;
- To identify and communicate critical safety information to key audiences;
- To develop consistent national safety information for public and media release;
- To facilitate in a managed and consistent way the distribution of public safety messages;
Public Safety Statistics
EEA’s Public Safety Statistics Reports present high-level public safety trends and analysis for the general public and non-electrical workers over the past two decades.
Under the Electricity Act 1992, electricity suppliers have a responsibility to implement and maintain safety management systems to prevent works from presenting a significant risk of serious harm to any member of the public or significant damage to property.
As part of this requirement, the report provides electricity supply industry asset owners with a better understanding of our industry public safety performance, and information on key areas of public risk safety and education campaigns.
StayLive
The EEA is proud to support StayLive – founded in 2011 by New Zealand’s five largest electricity generators. Membership has since been extended to include Pioneer Energy, Transpower and the Electricity Engineers’ Association as core members.
The StayLive initiative has seen competitor companies come together to pool their resources for the single objective to improve health and safety in the industry.
The group meets formally every six weeks and the working group leaders provide updates on the current initiatives and where safety alerts and the lessons learned are shared and discussed. Where working groups are able to come to agreement on common approaches and guidelines are prepared for the industry.
These guidelines are freely available so please visit the StayLive website to learn more about the group.
If you are interested in becoming an associate member and participating in the working groups, get in contact with the StayLive Team.
