2022 Award Recipients
Graeme Johnson
The EEA is thrilled to be awarding Graeme with an EEA Life Membership in recognition of his over 27-year contribution and commitment to the Safety Manual – Electricity Industry (SM-EI), and safety improvement in the electricity supply industry.
Russell Watson
The EEA is delighted to be awarding Russell with an EEA Life Membership in recognition of his contribution to industry engineering and technical standards.
EEA Life Membership Award Recipients
Graeme Johnson
Graeme Johnson is the Quality and Compliance Manager at Aurora Energy. He began his career in the industry in 1974 as an electrical technician before becoming a design technician with the Otago Central Electric Power Board. Prior to this he served in the Royal New Zealand Air Force as an Electrical Mechanic/Fitter.
Russell Watson
Russell Watson is a Principal Engineer at Northpower with nearly 40 years’ experience in the electricity supply industry. Russell has held many engineering and engineering management roles within Northpower, covering most aspects of electrical distribution, including design, maintenance, and operation.
Marshall Clark
Marshall is an ‘Electricity System Engineer’ with almost forty years’ experience in design, asset management and construction, including hydro power stations, AC transmission substations, HVDC converter stations and synchronous condensers.
Tas Scott
Tasman Scott started in the NZED after graduating with a BE from Canterbury Engineering school in 1970.
Bob Simpson
Bob is a professional electrical engineer (ME, FIPENZ, CPEng, FIET, and CEng) with over 40 years of electricity industry experience.
Rodger Griffiths
Throughout his career Rodger has been involved with many aspects of power system design and construction in the generation, transmission and distribution sectors of the NZ industry. He continues to play an active role in promoting innovative engineering solutions.
Stephen Hirsch
The EEA is pleased to award Stephen Hirsch a Life Membership of the Association to recognise his contribution to the EEA and the NZ power industry, and to congratulate him on his outstanding career.
Peter Browne
Peter is a professional engineer and self-employed engineering consultant and has been a member and involved with the EEA for over four decades.
Frank Lewis
Frank has been involved with the EEA for nearly all of his time in New Zealand and was the lead advocate for power industry consultant membership of EEA and their recognition as a growing future industry sector that should be a part of the Governance structure of the EEA.
Richard Gibbons
Richard has over 35 years of experience in the Electrical Power Industry and is currently the General Manager of LineTech Consulting.
Wayne Spittal
Wayne Spittal joined the EEA in 1983 as a Graduate Engineer for Tasman Electric Power Board.
Bryan Leyland
The 2006 Life Membership Award was presented to Bryan Leyland, who has had a long and distinguished engineering career, both in New Zealand and overseas.
Brian McGlinchy
Brian McGlinchy is an engineer who has played a significant role in the New Zealand electricity supply industry and the work of the EEA. He is an engineer who has spent the last 45 years being a part of, and influencing the shape of, the New Zealand electricity supply industry.
Kevin Mackey
The 2006 Life Membership Award was presented to Kevin Mackey, an engineer who has spent the last 37 years being a part of, and influencing the shape of, the New Zealand electricity supply industry. In 2005, Kevin retired both from the industry and as EEA President.
Jim Pearce
The 2006 Life Membership Award was presented to Jim Pearce, former CEO of Networks South in Timaru.
Bill Allen
The 2003 Life Membership Award was presented to Bill Allen in recognition of his long service to the electricity supply industry and the EEA.
