How long should the application take me to complete?
There is no specific length this may take, but we wouldn’t expect this to take you a significant amount of time.
For company projects, you may have previously written a report about it or you might have made a presentation to staff already that you can repurpose. You might even have entered your initiative in another awards programme so you could re-use that content.
Remember to focus on the judging criteria and make sure you provide the information the judges are looking for.
Can I submit on projects completed a couple of years ago?
Yes, although it depends on how long ago your project was completed. In all instances, we want to see evidence of the outcome of your project which takes time to emerge so you might find that a project completed 12 months ago is now perfectly placed to report on.
For the engineering excellence award, your project needs to have been in place for at least a year.
Can I submit a project that is only partially completed?
In all instances, we want to see evidence of the outcome of your project so if your project is still in the implementation phase, that might be difficult to provide.
However, we recognise that some projects, like a health and safety campaign, will be ongoing and may never be ‘complete’ so we do expect to receive applications from programmes that are ongoing.
For the engineering excellence award, your project needs to have been in place for at least a year.
How much information do you need?
The important thing to remember is to answer all the questions and give the judges the information they are looking for, as per the judging criteria. Keep your application focussed on these areas rather than providing lots and lots of additional content.
How should I present the information?
There is an online form that you need to fill in but you also have the opportunity to add attachments. It might be a word document or a powerpoint.
I submitted last year but was not successful – can I submit the same project again?
If you were not successful last time, have another look at the judging criteria and see where you can provide more, or more specific, information in your submission. It might be that you simply did not provide enough evidence or examples to highlight what you submitted on.
It might be that given the time that has passed since last year, you now have more evidence of success.
However, if you submit the exact same information as last year, it is unlikely you will win the award this year.
Can I submit on projects that I was involved in but did not lead on?
Yes, provided you have the full support and endorsement of the team and your organisation.
Can I submit projects that have won other industry awards already?
Yes, we encourage you to share examples of best practice and great initiatives regardless of whether they have already been awarded success.
If I have won previously, can I enter again?
Yes, provided you meet all the terms and conditions for the selected award.
What if I am unable to attend the presentation event to accept my award?
While we would really like to be able to hand over awards in person, you can nominate another staff member to collect the award on your behalf.
Do you have a question not covered by the above?
