Risk Matrix

  • Posted by Rodie Macrae on 23 June 2025 at 2:28 pm

    Good afternoon, all.

We are currently reviewing our risk matrix, as we feel our existing one is no longer fit for purpose.

Would anyone be willing to share their risk matrix with me for some perspective?

At present, we use the standard likelihood vs. consequence model, resulting in a scale from very low to extreme.

    Hi Rodie

We have recently reviewed ours and kept the 5×5 matrix, however the most important thing we did is add a set of descriptors for both Likelihood and Consequence to both remove subjectivity between people (your possible is my likely), and to be able to compare risks across the entire company (H&S vs Public Safety vs Network etc).

I will send you a copy of our Risk Management Standard, which provides the detail behind my summary.

    Cheers

    Stephen.

    Hi Rodie,

I’m also happy to share Top Energy’s. For public safety we decided to stick to the 5×5 matrix that can be found in the Safety Management Systems for Public Safety to NZS 7901:2014 Handbook for ESI and GSI Companies (PDF).

I’m also in the process to journey our organisation across from 7901:2008 to 2014.

Our corporate risk register looks a bit different, but public safety is listed as a risk in that and thus get’s covered as part of the wider risk.

@Stephen I would be quite keen to also have a look at that Risk Management standard which you mentioned.

    Cheers,

    Jacques
