The Safety Standards and Procedures Group (SSPG) has published the new Permit Area Guide, which sets out industry good practices for the application and management of permit areas in Switchyards and Stations, as defined in the SM-EI. This comprehensive guide covers:
- Principles and requirements for permit area management
- Best practices for signage within permit areas
- Clear explanations that a Permit Area is an Issuer-applied safety measure
The new guide replaces the previous documents, Principles of Permit Areas and Marking Equipment for Access for Work, streamlining guidance and reducing cross-referencing. The improved layout and clarity aim to make compliance and implementation easier for all users.
The SSPG thanks all companies who provided feedback during the consultation process.
