The EEA has been asked if we could find and put forward some suitable nominees for this committee, and we are therefore seeking your help to identify people within your organisations or networks who may be a good fit.

Standards New Zealand has been invited by Standards Australia to jointly participate in the adoption of a suite of IEC standards through the EL-007 Power Switchgear committee. At present, there are no New Zealand members on this committee, and for NZ to participate we need a minimum of three NZ representatives.

This is an important opportunity to ensure New Zealand’s operational, asset management, and system context is reflected in the standards that ultimately shape our equipment, testing, and network practices.

    Could you please:

    • Consider whether someone in your organisation (or someone you know in the sector) would be well suited, and
    • Forward this opportunity on internally to relevant technical leaders or subject matter experts.

The work programme includes adoption of the following standards (among others):

    • Partial discharge measurement (IEC 60270)
    • HV testing techniques (IEC 60060 series, IEC 61083)
    • Gas-insulated switchgear and substations (IEC 62271-203, -202)
    • Circuit breakers, metal-enclosed switchgear, and switch-fuse combinations (IEC 62271-100, -200, -105, etc.)

By way of background, the EL-007 committee scope covers:

    • High-voltage testing techniques
    • Insulation coordination
    • Fault current calculation and effects
    • Surge arresters and surge protective devices
    • High-voltage switchgear, assemblies, and associated equipment
    • Maintenance of switchgear and HV/LV fuses

This includes standards for prefabricated and type-tested assemblies and associated test methods.

    Key dates:

    • Indication of interest: by 22 January 2026
    • Completed nomination forms due: Early February 2026

If you think someone in your organisation would be a good candidate, . This is a great way to build NZ capability and influence upstream standards that increasingly shape our technical and regulatory environment.

If you think someone in your organisation would be a good candidate, or would like to know more, please contact Stuart – stuart@eea.co.nz
