Health and Safety Forum is an open forum for members of the Electricity Supply Industry to discuss health and safety matters and learn from each other.
The Electricity Distribution Sector has a Health and Safety meeting every three months, to find out more contact Maarten Tinsel – maarten.tinsel@omexon.co.nz.
MainPower has the following requirements for HV operating and earthing:
11,000 V, Class 1
22,000 V, Class 2
33,000 V, Class 3
66,000 V, Class 4
The risk to workers is exposure to phase-to-earth voltage, not phase-to-phase voltage.
Regarding the rating of Class 4 insulating gloves, Salisbury brand state a maximum use voltage (when worn with leather protectors) of 36 kV a.c. This is under to phase voltage value (38.1 kV) for a line voltage of 66 kV.
However, as far as I am aware, there doesn’t appear to be an alternative option.
