Reply To: PPE requirements for carrying out LV and HV switching
Before looking at what we do, you will need to determine what you need.
Each network has a unique electrical fault context; as it is built using similar but not the same equipment, which may perform differently during a fault. (for example, one EDB may have Neutral Earth Resisters at every Zone substation to limit fault current, and another EDB might not; different models of RMU may be able to be operated remotely, or not).
Your engineers should undertake Arc Flash calculations for your equipment, which will then guide you to the necessary minimum requirements for Arc Rated PPE. The EEA Arc Flash Guide is a useful reference.
Like you we are reviewing our PPE standard, and we are using our arc flash calculations to inform our thinking.
