My thoughts are that using first principle does eliminate doubt around depths, positioning, work type (whether there is any OH works taking place) and complacency just not wearing a hard hat. They are there to protect the individuals on an active site from being accidently hit in the head it doesn’t have to be OH work once you have bent over in a trench it could be your mate knocking something off a pillar, a RMU or the side of a trench.
