Testing LV distribution networks

    Hi.

Reg 38 (2) – before we connect we must ensure the polarity and rotation is correct, the protection is correctly rated, and the works are compatible with the supply voltage.

Is anyone able to offer how polarity is being tested prior to connection of works? I understand how this is done when connecting an installation to works, but connecting works to works gets challenging.

Similar question for Rotation. This is usually done after connection.

Protection can be done by design (or loop after livening although this doesn’t meet the “before” statement in ESR 38(2)).

I’d also like to highlight that energy safety has been pushing (rightly) for pre and post polarity testing for installations – implications are that same thinking will end up into the works space.

    Thanks for your feedback.

    Hi Warren

Just responding to your question on the forum, Northpower has done some work on this and come up with some testing solutions to achieve this. If you would like to give me a call I can explain what gear we use and how we do it.

    Regards
