“I was drawn to engineering because of the possibility to combine technical knowledge with interpersonal skills to address and contribute to the largest problems facing our society. I want to do good in the world alongside epic people!”

How would you introduce yourself in one sentence?

I’m enthusiastic and deeply passionate about the application of STEM content across disciplines to address climate change through innovative and collaborative solutions.

Why did you choose to study electrical engineering?

I was drawn to engineering because of the possibility to combine technical knowledge with interpersonal skills to address and contribute to the largest problems facing our society. I want to do good in the world alongside epic people!

In which projects have you been involved in and outside of university?

Throughout my university studies and my time in industry, I have had the privilege of being able to work in group projects with the goals of innovation and sustainable development. I am currently working with a team as part of my Final Year Project to develop a high-altitude balloon system for Kea Aerospace. The focus of the team is to create and verify thermal models as well as hardware that would aid the development of Kea’s unmanned stratospheric aircraft.

How would you like to contribute to the electricity supply industry in the future?

I’m personally excited to see how we can combine space innovation with climate action to enhance our ability to respond to our energy demands. The research and development of these technologies exist at the forefront of the innovation sphere, and I hope to get stuck in!

What is the most important piece of advice you would give to high school students wanting to start a degree in engineering? And to university students wanting to specialise in power engineering?

I would definitely recommend researching previous final year projects that have been completed by people in each discipline- see if there are ones that really excite you!  This can give a taste of what type of projects you could work on using the knowledge taught and therefore, help choose which discipline you’ll end up loving but also remember those projects are just to give context and inspiration- you can always come up with your own!
