Isolation and Locking Off

    Hi All,

Interested in other networks practices around the isolation and locking off (LO) of equipment.

It was thought as once was the practice many moons ago that on our network that LO, was to install a private lock on the equipment e.g. ABS and apply a DNO tag.

Field workers today install the network lock back on the equipment in conjunction with a DNO tag.

What’s your network require your FSP to do????

Any isolation points for shutdowns on our bit of network we service require a Private Lock and Tag.

    Hi Paul

We apply a standard network lock (not individual or personal locks)under direct instruction from the Control Room, where practicable. Due to automation of the network and subsequent remote operation from the Control Room, there are less actual issuer-applied locking activities taking place.

This is in conjunction with a signed and dated ‘DNO’ tag.

Due to the remote operations as mentioned above, we are looking at making our DNO tags more visible.

We have a different tag for out-of-service equipment, and for installation-related activities.

We use private locks but this can lead to issues over shift changes. This is currently being reviewed by our control room Obviously some equipment cant be physically locked off i.e. gas O/H switches can be locked but only by virtue of their design (pull lever and half turn.) Ours are then tagged physically in the field with a wrap around Velcro DNO tag and tagged as part of the safety logic within our NMS
