Operating at Covid-19 Alert Level 2

    Hi everyone

There has been some discussion across industry in the past few days about how everyone is planning to operate at Covid-19 Alert Level 2. Without knowing what additional measures the Government may put in place (Level 2 ½), I have two questions to help our thinking that I thought would also help others in their planning.

    1) Are you planning to have all staff return to the office/work at Level 2 or a progressive approach?

    2) Are you going to require people to wear masks while in office or other enclosed work areas, and if so, are you putting rules in place such as only when they leave their immediate work area / office space etc?

    Thanks

    Andy

Hi Andy, great topic and in fact I’ve been doing a bit of reading on this earlier (air quality in buildings).

    1. We’re thinking a staggered approach return to the office as we did last time. This will be up to managers to discuss individually with their team and take into account personal circumstances.

    2. A great question, and we may actually get some direction from the Govt this afternoon.

Have you seen this guidance from Europe around air quality in buildings and associated Covid risks? Worth a read, it is dated April this year so doesn’t account for the Delta variant, but the main guidance document is worth a read.

It seems the smaller spaces and offices have more risk than the open plan larger spaces. Ventilation and number of air changes per hour seem critical, with PPE the last line of defence.

    Cheers

Thanks Marty. We will likely do a staggered return also as we did previously. The air quality guide looks worth a read.

    Hi Andy

    1) we have a phased approach to staff return – some office staff are physically situated less than 1 metre from each other so won’t be fully back until Level 1 (may do alternate days or morning/afternoons instead).

Field workers and essential support staff returned at Level 3 however we have split into two physically separated sites with no interaction between them.

    2) we expect either 1 metre distancing, or a mask (stairs, hallways and photocopy areas are problematic).

From comments by Soiuxie Wiles etc. I expect masks to become mandatory (or at least strongly recommended) for all businesses.

Not reasonable practicable to wear masks in cafes so implementing smoko/lunch shifts.

    Cheers

    Stephen.
