Flex Day 2025, a workshop hosted in partnership with EEA, EECA, and the Flex Forum, provided an update on recent advancements in demand flexibility in Aotearoa.
The event featured a presentation by Steve Batstone, who outlined the current state of flexibility and its alignment with the Flex Forum 2.0 Flexibility Plan. Attendees also learned about EECA’s strategy and ongoing projects related to demand flexibility.
Three demand flexibility pilots launched by EDBs (Alpine Energy, Orion, and Vector) shared updates on their progress using non-traditional solutions to address network constraints. In addition, Transpower and Powerco offered insights from their Western Bay of Plenty Project.
The workshop also included a dedicated session on customer engagement. Lynne Gallagher spoke on understanding the various motivations for customers to participate in flexibility programs. The discussion also included a request for industry input on how to successfully involve customers in these initiatives.
Further to this, Ara Ake provided an update on their National Flex Discovery Fund.
