Starting out in the electricity industry looks different for everyone, and that’s exactly what this event is about.
Young EEA, in association with Aruhiko PEET, invites you to From First Steps to Future: Early Career Journeys — an evening of honest conversation with four professionals who’ve navigated the transition from study to work, changed direction, and built careers worth having.
Young EEA From First Steps to Future Early Career Journeys – Flyer
Whether you’re a final-year student figuring out what’s next, a recent graduate finding your feet, or an early-career engineer considering a change, this one’s for you.
Hear from:
- Sabine Volker: Graduate Design Engineer, Connetics Sabine’s path has taken her from Powerco in New Plymouth to the graduate programme at Connetics in Christchurch. She’ll talk about the realities of transitioning into working life, including the ups, the adjustments, and why it’s been worth it.
- Tyler Baker: Power Systems Engineer, Beca Tyler came to power systems engineering via electrician work in mining, solar, and switchgear. At Beca he now works across 3D modelling, substation earthing design, and navigating problems that definitely weren’t in any manual. He’s here to share what he’s learnt so you don’t have to learn it all the hard way.
- Hayley Head: Technical Safety and Engagement Lead, EEA With a career spanning field operations, network access, training, and health and safety leadership, Hayley brings deep practical experience to her work improving safety outcomes across New Zealand’s electricity supply industry. She’ll share what shaped her path and what she’s learned about building a purposeful career.
- Jennifer Dale: Network Strategy and Investment Manager, Orion Jennifer graduated from Canterbury, worked in smart network R&D at Unison, moved into substation design at Connetics, and has spent the last 11 years growing with Orion through a range of leadership roles. Her career is a great example of what’s possible when you stay curious and keep moving.
After the presentations, stick around to connect with speakers, fellow students, and industry professionals over drinks and nibbles. Your next opportunity might be in the room.
