Adapting for the future: Powerco’s developing digital capabilities in forecasting, DG connections & network management

Webinar held 22 July 2026

Growth in consumer energy resources is creating opportunities for New Zealand while increasing uncertainty for distribution networks.  Powerco is responding by developing integrated modelling tools, scenario-based forecasting supported by smart meter data, faster processes for connecting new utility-scale generation, and new approaches to grid-edge control.  It is also improving understanding of low-voltage network health and incorporating community services and infrastructure interdependencies into resilience planning.

About our presenters

Kewen Kueh, Mike Reid, Andrew Wilson, and Bernie Coster all bring substantial experience across the electricity distribution and power sectors, with strong expertise in network operations, engineering, asset management, modelling, DER, ADMS, and DSO capability development.  Their work collectively focuses on preparing Powerco’s network for the future by improving operational readiness, integrating emerging technologies, strengthening real-time processes, and supporting more flexible, customer-focused energy systems.
