Young engineers William Thomas and Abigail Field have taken out the APEX Best Presentation and People’s Choice awards for their presentations at yesterday’s Annual Power Exchange (APEX) summit for graduate and student engineers.
William works at Meridian Energy and won the Best Presentation Award for his paper Developing secondary system upgrades – a case study of the Waitaki 110V DC distribution upgrade.
The award, jointly sponsored by EEA and Cigre, gives William the opportunity to present his paper at EEA 2025, a one-year Cigre NZ membership and a cash prize of $250.
Abigail Field, a 2022 EEA University Scholarship recipient, won the People’s Choice Award for her paper Hybrid Solar and BESS – to DC or not to DC. Abigail works at Electronet.
The awards were given after a full day of presentations which saw 12 young engineers present key projects to their peers. A panel discussion followed led by Patrick Berry (Electra), Michael O’Brien (Powerco) and Richard Steer (Wellington Electricity) before a social function to end the day.
APEX is EEA’s annual summit for graduate and student engineers, an opportunity for them to meet each other, connect, share knowledge and gain some new experiences from their peers.
With thanks to all our sponsors CIGRE; Electra Ltd; Meridian Energy; Northpower; Powerco; Transpower New Zealand and Wellington Electricity!
