Health and Safety Forum is an open forum for members of the Electricity Supply Industry to discuss health and safety matters and learn from each other.
The Electricity Distribution Sector has a Health and Safety meeting every three months, to find out more contact Maarten Tinsel – maarten.tinsel@omexon.co.nz.
We are about to release a pragmatic company standard on this (I will send it once it is finished) but the short version is as follows:
1. Work Areas = No person shall enter a work area with a drop zone or exclusion zone until they have drawn the operator’s attention to their presence and have been acknowledged.
2. Drop
Zones: suspended loads = No
one in drop zone while load is suspended
3. Drop zones: working aloft = No one in drop zone during active work. Permission from operator must be obtained before entering a drop zone if work is paused.
4. Exclusion zones = No unauthorised
person in exclusion zone, authorised persons must only remain inside the
exclusion zone for the shortest practical time to undertake their required task.
This allows for activities such as tying on/off equipment using handlines, positioning of poles into donut and use of cant-hook to align poles, etc.
Cheers
Stephen
