ABOUT
Overhead line design is a specialised and uncommon role. New Zealand’s electricity distribution businesses are geographically distributed and relatively small-scale. Overhead line designer’s generally form a small team within an organisation or may even work alone. New Zealand line designer’s often work in relative professional isolation.
For this reason, it is important for Overhead Line Designer’s to have the opportunity to operate within a wider NZ professional community. The Line Designer’s Forum seeks to assist with provide this opportunity.
The overarching purpose of the Line Designer’s Forum is to:
- Develop and sustain an overhead line design professional community. Provide a networking opportunity for overhead line designers and subject matter experts.
- Communicate good practice overhead line design, including specific examples of design and generally design which is consistent, efficient, effective, and safe
- Support and promote industry learning programmes.
- Communicate and roll out new industry standards, regulations and resources (e.g. EEA publications).
- Foster and co-ordinate collaboration across industry members and stakeholders
- Support the development of overhead line design subject matter experts and future leaders.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This event is intended for electricity distribution overhead line designers, project managers, consultants, and those who work in the management and maintenance of overhead line assets.
OVERHEAD LINE DESIGNERS FORUM – WEDNESDAY 21ST MAY
PURPOSE
The purpose of this annual forum is to support industry OHLD teams, and improve industry knowledge, capability and safety in line design by sharing learnings and good standards/practices, discussing common issues, understanding changing technology, and supporting designers in growing their professional contacts and industry relationships.
CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS
The call for presentations is open now, and closing on Friday 25th April, email it to carl@linesmarts.com.
As this is an interactive forum for OHLD professionals, we invite attendees to present on topics they are interested in. Talks can be 5-20 minutes in length.
So, if you have some design challenges to share or have been involved in any interesting work/projects from which others could learn from please contact Carl who is putting the Forum Agenda together.

- New products, techniques, experiences
- Problems solved, learnings
- Unresolved problems
- Proposals for collaborative work
Cost to attend the forum is $400.00+gst

Pre-Forum Event 20th May
On the day before the Line Designer’s Forum other activities will be held including a CIGRE meeting in the morning and a series of software and product supplier educational workshops in the afternoon.

DINNER
A networking dinner will be arranged for Tuesday 20th May, the evening prior to the Line Designer’s Forum. Dinner attendees will pay their own costs. The venue will be confirmed at a later date.

Micro-credential training
Overhead line training micro-credential course will be offered in Pukekohe the day following the Line Designer’s Forum on the 22nd of May. Details for these events will be posted separately.
