    Kia ora team,

EA Networks is embarking on a 4-year replacement programme of a 18kV lightning arrestor (LA) type used on 22kV distribution feeders that has exhibited in-service power frequency failure, i.e. not due to excessive voltage and not due to lightning. We would like to replace these using live line techniques to minimise disruption to sensitive customers and the safety issues of outage switching for de-energised replacement. Do you replace LAs using LL on your network? What cover up and procedural safety measures do you take? Have you had any LA failures during live line replacement? Are there any restrictions on replacement using LL techniques?

Your experience and input is valued – thanks in advance.

    Nga mihi, Pete Armstrong
