Lone Worker Monitoring Equipment with Man Down Function

MainPower is currently reviewing its lone/remote working equipment with man-down function.

The current device used by MainPower is a handheld radio with man-down function.

This handheld radio is linked to the vehicle RT, but has range restrictions from the vehicle, and users have commented the handheld radio is cumbersome, particularly when working at height.

I understand there may be systems that utilise a mobile phone app for lone/remote working and man-down function.

MainPower is interested in what systems other EDI companies are using for lone/remote working and man-down function.

The above has also been posted to the EEA Knowledge Network EDI H&S Forum for those wishing to respond using that flatform.

    Thank you all in advance.

    Regards

    Hi Stephen

Like you, we have a man down function linked to our portable RTs.

Being a predominately rural network, I am watching with interest what effect One-NZ’s partnering with StarLink will have on existing man-down monitoring systems which are satellite-based (especially those like SPOT which require month access fees) and how greater cell coverage will increase the number of phone-based apps (with a corresponding reduction in cost).

    Stephen.

      Hi Stephen,

Thank you for your response; much appreciated.

Arguably it may be premature to jump in with a new system at this stage. Perhaps its best to watch with interest until a clear best overall option reveals itself, noting the needs and challenges of individual EDBs may vary.

      Regards

      Stephen

    Morning Stephen.

Like wise we work remote in some fairly off track back country.

At present we use smart track in the vehicles and a PLB when away from said vehicle.

We are looking into a watch from Damstra Solo. It looks to have some really good functions, and isn’t as bulky .

Hopefully we will have one on trial early next year.

    Will keep you posted.

    Regards, Rodie.
