I would like to hear people’s opinions / solutions on methodologies for stringing conductor. Guide to Work on Poles and Pole
Structures s.12 gives some guidance. Is there any industry best practice? Is using a winch gold standard? Is a risk assessment for driving a Ute to pull slack still widely used and accepted? There will be a number of solutions in between which are used which suits the terrain being worked on.

I’m keen to hear what other networks accepted baseline is.

    Cheers

In what context Rhys – reconductoring or pulling up a downed conductor

      I was thinking reconductoring

WEL have a wire winder trailer and a wire feed out trailer. Helicopter work; we use the helicopter to pull sideways off the braked drum wire trailer and they thread the conductor through the roller trap gates. Will see if I can find some photos/video’s

We utilise a wire winder and run the conductor out under tension in conjuntion with a recovery unit.

If these arent suitable then pull up as much as can by hand then tension with mules keeping even pressure on all conductors.

We dont use vehicles to pull out slack

    Hi Rhys

We are the same as Bill and Graeme.

Ute winches aren’t used for planned work – only fault response, and we prefer to use truck-mounted winches.

    Cheers

    Stephen.
