Pole Splinting

    Hi all,

We are currently exploring various options for managing poles following a vehicle vs pole incident, including pole splinting where it is safe and appropriate to do so.

Is anyone currently undertaking this type of work? If so, are there any existing procedures, training materials or guidelines you would be willing to share?

Any information or lessons learned would be greatly appreciated as we assess the available options.

Thanks in advance and see you at the Line Comp.

    Hi Craig

    We don’t splint damaged poles.

Any poles hit by vehicles are inspected and measured by a pole inspector using a VONAQ. If they are considered at risk of failure the following occurs:

    1. Any that are determined to be an imminent and immediate risk of failure will be held by a Hiab or our pole grab ute until replaced that day.

    2. Any that may last overnight are concrete blocked and replaced the next day.

However, we do splint poles that are considered close to ‘end of life’ in some circumstances.

    hope this helps?

    Stephen.
