This from a near miss we received today from one of our faulties, really reinforces the why behind why effective HV earthing / LV bonding and protection from voltage differences is critically important.

Short reference: Generator back feeding to network

Event details: Whilst on a no power at a farm I tested at the cutout, 230v was coming in and 220 on the service side. The 60a fuses had blown and the farm was running a generator, not only did they have a faulty Poe they also had a faulty generator switch that was feeding back to the network. When I explained to the farmer what would have happened on a normal shutdown ( he would have back feed into our network)he was horrified. I left the fuses out and he was getting a electrician in to fix the Poe and the generator switch

    Thanks Graeme.

Shows the importance of testing and Earthing / Bonding. Not relying on an electrical switch for protection.
