Car vs Pole Crash Barriers – Ingal Raptor Crash Cushions

    Hi all,

Powerco are installing some of these Ingal Raptor Crash Cushions around some of our poles that have been identified as high risk, for car vs pole incidents.
We will look to use these as an interim or alternative to moving the pole, going UG etc.

These crash cushions are made in NZ, but we aren’t aware of other elec networks in NZ using them? Waka Kotahi have a few across NZ.
Theyre exported to AUS & USA who use a lot of them!

Please see specs and info attached (these are just the single pole specs).
If you would like to discuss this any further please get in touch with Ken Pattie, Andrew Jarman – Senior Asset Engineer or Edward Dennis – HS Business Advisor who have been working on getting these on our network. Happy to pass on contact details as required.

If you use these currently on your network (in NZ) or have in a previous role , can you please comment letting me know?

Excellent – we may consider this for a few troublesome poles we have. Would be keen on any learnings. Thanks 🙂

We have several on our network, I will get some photos over the next few days.

As far as I’m aware since we’ve had them installed the poles they’re on havent been hit again – ‘murphy’s law’

Fantastic, would be great to see them in situ! What area/network are they on?

    Hi Zoe

As attached, looks like one of these (original install) has been hit and more than likely saved the pole.

These located on the Vector network, Northern patch.

    Regards

    G
