    Hi Team,

Just wondering how you all go about cable spiking training, documentation, refresher training, types of tooling, safe working distances etc.

As always, any and all help appreciated 🙂

    Hi Shaun,

We currently don’t have any refresher training for cable spiking, great idea. We have a Safe Work Procedure to provide guidance for staff. This includes cable ID and tag, assembly of the tool, operation of the tool with a requirement for the operator to stand 7m clear and what to do for a misfire. We are working through learning and refresher requirements for high-risk tasks on the network and this is on the list. I think we use the Acvoke cable spiker. I notice the EEA guide to “Safe Work With Cables” now also includes the option for using a remote cutting device which are cheaper than a cable spiker.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers Mark

    As requested

To operate the cable spiking tool we require the following Unit Standard 24152 , a Cable Spiking Practical Assessment. Based on successful outcome of these we have a WTC for cable spiking

    Documents attached.

    Cheers
